Abrasive wire manufacturing has been a part of this company since 1995, starting with a small contract for a local business.
We expanded to rope making in 2005 (see Custombraid.net).
Although the two products are quite different the rope machinery quickly inspired us to develop a new method of manufacturing our wires.
This is now a reality using a fully computer controlled machine designed and built here at Foam Link.
This new technology has resolved many of the inherent issues an endless wire normally has.
These include:
- Even tension through the core wires (allowing greater tensions up to 50Kg)
- Controlled twisting during manufacture (eliminating the self coiling & simplifies wire change)
- Seamless solder joint (removing the cutting marks on foam.)
- Increased automation (lower costs)
This has also enabled us to manufacture Tungsten Wires due to the unique tension control system.
We make four types of wires.
- The standard wire is the basic wire and quite useful in most soft or low density foams like Phenolic Foam.
- The “S” Wrap wires is a good “all rounder” for cutting most foams including PUR, Polystyrene, Phenolic.
- The “X” Wrap wire is an aggressive wire. It will perform well in High density foams like Re-bond.
- The Tungsten wires are extremely hard wearing and are ideal for cutting Rock Wool & Foam Glass.
